Does It Get Any Better Than This?!

This month has been so good I’m almost giddy! You know those days when you wake up and think, ‘does it get any better than this?’ Well, that’s been me most of the month (not counting those weeks my daughter was teething).

1. First off, it’s fall!

That’s excuse enough! The leaves are coming down in handfuls, just enough to be pretty but not enough hellooctoberto require a rake. The maple trees are turning colors on us, and suddenly ugly houses look like masterpieces. My un-mowed yard still looks great since the grass has stopped growing and I get to wear scarfs everywhere. I want to say that fall is my favorite season, but I tend to think that at the beginning of every season. Maybe it’s just the thrill of change in the air that gets to me.

Fall also means mornings curled up on the armchair with a cup of hot coco and a good book, enjoying the quiet before the rest of the house wakes up. That might be my favorite part of the season. The still morning air that’s still a little chilly because no one has turned the heater on yet. The chance to take a moment and enjoy the calm before the storm. Maybe it’s because I’m reading a book with a strong female lead, but in those quiet mornings I feel like I could take on the world.

2. We’re drawing up plans for a second retreat!

newI probably should have led with that. . . But it’s ok, now the only ones who know are the ones w
ho actually read the blog post! Muhaha! With the first retreat home we just had to work with what we had. We had to make due with rooms that weren’t quite the right size, or living rooms that needed the window to be just a little to the left.

Now I am a slave to another man’s vision no longer! Well, besides my husband’s. 😉 We are making the rooms the perfect size for two queen beds (except for the master, which will have a king). The master is going to have a connecting, walk-in bathroom with a full shower and jacuzzi tub! I might not let any of you come stay in it and just keep the house for myself. If it turns out anything like the current plans, it’s going to be GORGEOUS!

This new home is also going to be a three bedroom, two bath and sleep up to ten! That’s some serious quilting! I’m already picking out color schemes and we don’t even have the layout finalized yet. LOL.

3. We have had some of the COOLEST guests at the Retreat Home!

always-something-to-be-thankful-forNow, I know, everyone says that their guests are the best, but ours really are! We just had two gentlemen check out that came all the way from Colorado so that the man’s father in-law could visit his childhood home (Hamilton). They spent their days walking the streets, reminiscing, and thoroughly making my day by leaving one of the sweetest reviews the retreat home has ever received.

In the review the gentlemen talked about how peaceful the home was, and how it lived up to all of our promises and more. . . That got me thinking. . . That’s exactly what we want our retreat homes to be! They need to be a place of peace and sanctuary. A place where only good things happen. Where the world can slip away for a little bit and you can enjoy the moment, rather than worrying about the future.

It is so neat to me that you – our guests – are defining our retreat homes.

Your reviews and emails quite literally shape our policies and the direction of the business.

You might think that making us coasters with your quilting scraps is nothing, but it’s something we are still talking about! And it’s something we reflect on often. . . We don’t want to be like hotels, where they don’t trust you with anything of value because you might break it or steal it. We have entrusted you with our home and you have rewarded us by making it even more beautiful.

Thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! (Ok, I’m a little emotional tonight, bare with me please!)
