Weston Apple Festival

Weston Apple Festival

Weston is a wonderful town located just a couple miles north of Kansas City, MO. Weston has won numerous awards for being the best day trip, best overnight stay, & best Kansas City destination. So we had to go check it out! And what better time to go than the Weston Apple Festival?

The Apple Festival takes place the first weekend in October and the whole town shuts down for it! Very similar to the MSQC birthday bash here in Hamilton, only much larger. Venders line the streets, food is sold on every corner, & the smell of apple cider fills the air.

Weston Apple Festival

One of our family’s favorites parts of running Dawson Retreats is being local tourists and writing these reviews for our readers. We have an absolute blast exploring the area and taking lots of pictures.

The festival was certainly one of those experiences! Lydia (pictured above) was especially excited about the “kids” section at the festival. There were puppeteers, pony rides, face painting, bobbing for apples, and many more games.

But if you aren’t travelling with young children don’t worry – there was plenty at the festival for adults as well! The vendors ranged from fresh, local honey to local pottery and baked goods. Just about everything there incorporated apples in some way! From applebutter to apple shaped pots. There were even apple dumplings (which were splendid!).

Weston Orchard

The festival was wonderful, but if you stopped there you would be missing out! After you are through shopping and munching, be sure to head over to the orchard. There are two locations and we chose to go to the one closest to the Weston center. And are we sure glad we did!

Besides just the U-pick it apple farm (they also have peach trees and strawberry plants), there was a whole section of an adult/child play area set up behind the barn! We felt like kids again as we bounced around on the largest trampoline we’d ever seen, got buried in a corn pit, raced one another in giant hamster wheels and generally just acted like children. After all, how often in life do you have a chance to do something like that?

Weston Apple Festival and Orchard has definitely earned a spot in our “Must visit” book and we look forward to going back again next year! We also look forward to getting a review of Weston itself – as it has much to offer without the festival as well! We can’t wait to go back and explore the many museums, restaurants, cheese farms, wineries, and breweries. Until next time!
